What's my minimum wage pay rise worth?

I built this to show what the April 2027 minimum wage rise means in your pocket. Pick your age band and hours, and I compare the current rate with the new one, before and after 2026/27 Income Tax and National Insurance. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

How it works

Yearly gross pay is the hourly rate times your weekly hours times 52. Weekly figures are the yearly figure divided by 52 and monthly figures divided by 12.

Income Tax uses the 2026/27 Personal Allowance of £12,570, then 20% basic rate on the next £37,700. In Scotland I use the Scottish bands instead. Employee Class 1 National Insurance is 8% on pay between £12,570 and £50,270 a year and 2% above that.

I use 2026/27 thresholds for the new rate too, so you can see the rise on its own. If thresholds change for 2027/28, your real figure will differ. Amounts are rounded to the penny.

Figures used and sources

Checked on 26 October 2026. I will update the new rates once the Budget confirms them.
